Hello families! Suamico is proud to partner with the American Heart Association with Kids Heart Challenge. Over the next few weeks, our students will be having fun learning about their heart with the Heart Heroes while raising money to help fund lifesaving research. Our school goal is to raise $7,500 and in addition to helping the American Heart Association, our school can earn free PE equipment. Students can earn their own Heart Hero Characters this year by using the new mobile app (download the KHC app) or by visiting heart.org/khc to sign up and raise money online! Just for signing up to save lives, your students will earn a glow in the dark wristband! PLUS this year, the mobile app unlocks even more fun and the Heart Heroes and wristband come to life! All donations are due on February 6th and our event day(s) are February 4th - 6th. Thank you for helping a great cause! NOTES FROM SCHOOL COUNSELOR ALI FOLEY:
Hello Parents/Guardians, The Suamico Elementary Student Council Committee has decided to have our school participate in The Great Kindness Challenge over the month of February. The Great Kindness Challenge is a powerful tool that actively engages students and school staff in creating a culture of compassion, acceptance, unity, and respect. The Student Council Leaders will be leading this proactive and positive bully prevention initiative. Here’s what you’ll need to know: During the month of February the students will hear a brief morning announcement from our Student Council Committee Leaders to announce one small act of kindness that each student should do at sometime during the day. Click Here to view the calendar of events. Most of these acts will be simple (i.e. smile at 25 people) and some will require a bit more effort (i.e. make a thank you note for your custodian). The students will be provided time to fulfill these activities during the school day, it will not be homework however, students are welcome to extend the kind acts while at home. Each student will be strongly encouraged to participate however, it’s not required! There is no need to keep track of these activities. We have made some modifications to this program to make it easier to implement. To find out more about The Great Kindness Challenge you can visit this website: https://thegreatkindnesschallenge.com/ As always, thank you for your support!! DECEMBER 2018 - FROM YOUR SCHOOL BOARD:
New Year, A Closer look into the HSSD School Board
As 2018 comes to a close, the Howard-Suamico School Board wants to thank you for your continued trust and support. As we prepare to bring in a new year, we want to make sure you are clear on the School Board’s role, our mission and ensure you have the visibility, aka transparency, you deserve.
School Board Role
The Board of Education acts as a whole, not as seven individuals, to ensure the success of every child through clear, concise direction to the superintendent as well as rigorous monitoring to ensure accountability. The board charges the superintendent to focus every staff member and all resources toward a single goal - student achievement. The superintendent receives direction from the board and authorizes the staff to implement practices, programs and activities that will provide the best education possible. This approach allows the Board to focus its time and energy on facilitating a successful school district.
Board Mission
The mission of the Howard-Suamico School District Board of Education is to enact policies and allocate resources to develop all students' full academic potential and to promote their social and emotional growth.
For more information about the School District and School Board, visit www.hssd.k12.wi.us. For additional information regarding this article, contact school board member Maria Lara at [email protected]. We wish you a Happy New Year!
